A Grand, Gluten Free, Christmas Dinner

I have neglected my duties as a gluten free blogger recently, so what appropriate way to end my 2015 of blogging with my guide to Christmas dinner.

This year has seen an expansion in gluten free products available in the supermarkets and that gluten free advert from Tesco has brought into the shining light of Christmas.

My Christmas dinner consisted of the following…

Gordon Rhodes “A Jolly Fine Stuffing” Sage & Onion Stuffing and “Drop Bread Gorgeous” Bread Sauce. I raved about these last year, I’ve raved about them on Twitter over the last year. These are a must. I never ate bread sauce when I was non-gluten free person, but now, I adore this.

Tesco Finest Cocktail Sausages and Cocktail Sausages wrapped in Smoked Bacon. I wasn’t very organised this year and failed to organise these necessities with our local, brass bander, Butcher. Tesco came to the rescue with these. I wasn’t keen on the sausages wrapped in bacon as I hate smoked bacon, but the plain ones were very nice.

Aunt Bessie’s Roast Potatoes Basted in Duck Fat. Roast potatoes make Christmas dinner for me, I can’t get enough of them and I was really pleased to finally find some pre-prepared roasties that were now suitable for gluten free peeps. Well done Aunt Bessie’s!

So with all of the above, and a few added extras, this amazing meal is created…

Tesco Free From Profiteroles!! Absolutely divine!

Have a lovely Christmas and hopefully I’ll have some more blog posts for 2016!

Hard Day… Dinner Dilemma!

Sometimes, when you’ve had a pap day at work, the last thing you want to do is think about what to make for dinner. Especially, when you’re avoiding dairy and all you can see in the fridge is cheese, milk and chocolate!

Step in, Kirstys. A range of ready meals that are free from dairy, gluten and wheat and also, low in fat and sugar. Your automatic thought, I bet, is “well, that’s going to be bland!“. Far from it. They’re delicious and a lot healthier compared to other “diet” ready meals.

Kirstys - Sausage & Sweet Potato

My favourite from the Kirstys range.

These ready meals have been my life saver since becoming dairy free. I found walking round supermarkets that a lot of ready meals contain dairy products in some form and it can be quite disheartening.

They take around 20mins to cook in the oven (quicker in the microwave, but I prefer the oven) and I usually serve mine with some cauliflower and broccoli. The sausages are very meaty and not coarse (I don’t like coarse sausages) and the onion gravy, with real slices of onions, gives it a really nice kick. Along with the smoth carrot and sweet potato mash, this is my favourite from the range.

As far as I’m aware, they’re only available in Sainbury’s at the moment however, they’re quite often on offer at 2 for £4, which is a bargain really. Even if you’re not intollerant to foods, I think everyone should give these yummy meals a go!
